Technical description
ryukyu indigo is an ancient Okinawan indigo dyeing technique. the raw material is a
perennial plant in the acanthus family called yama-ai. In summer and winter, the
branches and leaves are cut off, soaked in water and fermented until they become a muddy
dye. garments are dyed in fifteen to twenty cycles in pots of indigo dyes, resulting in
a vivid purple-blue color. It is a special color that develops its own unique texture
over time
